More from Lower Valley Trail

(Click on the thumbnail for the bigger, better version)

I didn't have time for much of a walk yesterday, after all. Good intentions and all that. I got sidetracked setting up yet another external hard drive, so I can eventually have more working space without spending the tedious hours combing through old folders and deciding between file number xxx8 and xxx9. The photo above was taken a couple of days ago during that long walk bathed in lovely light.

Yesterday, I was on the way out for at least a short trek down Lower Valley when I saw both horses at full attention, staring intently toward Cub Lake. Peering more closely, I spotted the cloud of dust and eventually saw half a dozen girls out for a rather raucous ride. They were cantering, laughing, and shouting at one another—having a grand time. Lancer and Night joined in the excitement, so that meant, of course, that I couldn't possibly head out for a walk. Besides, I didn't particularly want to be in path of "The Wild Bunch". Not that I would have been in danger, but I would have eaten a good deal of dust. The trail certainly wouldn't have been my typical quiet, refuge.

No big loss. There are worse ways to spend my walk then ambling around the property near the house, watching the horses do something other than their customary munching, checking on the birch trees, and just soaking up the comfort of feeling more and more at home in Bear Valley Springs.

  1. Go, Anita! Go! Keep up the writing. I'm really enjoying. That is one beautiful horse portrait. Is that Night? Sorry, I don't remember. :-) You can tell that something's got his attention for sure.

Regarding your drives and stuff, you're starting to sound quite technical, even nerdy! LOL! Soon you'll be attending different nerdfests. Before you know it, you'll have a Solid State Drive on order and will be upgrading your computer talking about MIPS, bytes, bits, Gigabit Ethernet, etc.

  2. Paul - I just hope that if I start using that kind of language, I get my mouth washed out with soap! ;) Not to worry, I have barely a glimmer of what you are talking about. Face it I am one of those who doesn't understand the difference between a bit and byte.

Lancer is the chestnut. He is quite a camera hog and I swear he poses with great relish. They both get terribly excited when other horses pass so near by, and especially if the horses are cantering. A few seconds later both of our guys were thundering up and down the fence line, blowing off steam.

Thanks again for egging me on to post often. I should begin stockpiling some posts for one of my quiet periods, but I do need to at least make a half-hearted attempt to keep up with my other chores.

  4. Monte - And, this is a family-friendly blog. Or, at least it has been!

Thanks for the encouragement. I do love chattering on about my non-news.

  5. Anita the Birch leaves are fantastic, just the right amount of shadow, light and DOF to bring them alive.
My jealousy over your and several others ability to write well brings me to add to the keep writing campaign or at least post a photo often even without the words to go with it.

  6. Ray - Thanks for jumping in the campaign to egg me on. I have often admitted that once I made my peace with not having anything of importance to talk about and only a modicum of writing ability, I was free to cut loose. By the way, what's this business of your being jealous of the ability of others? I only wish you wrote more often. I'm living proof that you don't need to have much worth saying. ;)

I am so glad you like this version of the birch leaves. It certainly speaks to me.
