Laying Low

Another voice from the recovery ward. I thought Paul Butzi phrased it perfectly when stating that a couple of days ago he was “in the post-SoFoBoMo recovery”. While there was a flurry of activity on the blogs throughout April, I have noticed that many of the participants in the project have been quieter than usual since books were completed. I suppose the dialogue will pick up again once the May group gets rolling, but apparently I am not the only one moving rather slowly for a while.

I am a bit overwhelmed with some things that aren’t nearly as much fun and not nearly as exciting as another photo book. But, this won’t last forever.

  1. I think that I'm coming out of my 'photo funk'. I don't think that it was really a photo funk, but a culmination of a number of personal items, plus a bit work dissatisfaction, general family life, etc. Unfortunately, I let that get in the way of my photography, which I usually don't do. I'm starting to feel the spark again, thankfully.

Although I am a fan of daily practice, sometimes I just need to get a bit 'hungry' so that I can enjoy the taste of photography even more.

I've even thought of a few more book ideas. I think that I may do a few books per year. Nothing on a hard schedule, but I found it to be a great way to do things.

  2. I haven't been doing much photography myself, but I feel the same way about future plans. I think using the book as a structure is an excellent idea. It made a terrific difference for me. And the deadline helped—I'm just one of those people who needs that deadline.
