I thought I would would share this snapshot taken just before my debut in the boxing ring. Okay, you are right. I am not about to take up boxing. This is what my hand looked like when I left the hospital last week. While I am long past needing that much padding on the hand, I still have quite bit of dressing covering the stitches.
If you thought you spotted writing on my fingers and that they have a strange orange cast, you are right on both counts. Prior to surgery, each finger scheduled for the knife was marked, "yes"—no smiley faces, though. The orange cast is from the antiseptic, not an out of kilter monitor.

It looks fine, Anita, but as a fashion statement, I don't think it's going to catch on. When I had knee surgery a few years ago, the hospital staff put a large X on the good knee. Some surgeons do 8 or 10 similar surgeries a day and they can't remember each patient, especially if they are wearing a mask. Hope the healing is going well.
ReplyDeleteKen - What a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness those markings can eventually be washed off. Otherwise, by now, my body would resemble one of those especially busy intersections with arrows, x's, and short phrases indicating do's and don'ts sometimes overlapping one another. The nightmare stories we hear about doctors amputating the wrong limb or removing the wrong organ mean I am always grateful for the "road signs".
I am betting if you wacked someone with that hand, you might regret it more than they would. Good thing with that new iPad you can just use a finger to point around.
ReplyDeleteProbably a long recovery period ahead, hope it goes faster than you anticipate.
Mark - oh, boy, you have got that right. I love the portability of the iPad. While I haven't yet reached up to poke my monitor screen for action on the desk top, II have done it more than once on my phone.
ReplyDeleteI will have to control my Impatience and find a way to enjoy more downtime.
Anita, The good thing I see of this photo is I count five fingers sticking out -- a small but important silver lining. Sending positive energy for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteEarl - Thanks for adding to the laughs here. Gee, I never even considered losing a finger in the deal. Whew. You are right: accentuate the positive.
ReplyDeleteThanks, the healing is going well.
All appendages present and accounted for, that is good. :-)
ReplyDeleteMonte - And they will soon be functioning once again. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteHaving been out of internet connection for a while, I missed all this about smiley faces and x markings on fingers and knees .... after having downloaded a week's log-jam of emails and messages I went looking for updates on your blog - saw the picture of a bandaged hand - holy cow! what happened? Speedy recovery to you!
ReplyDeleteAnil - Welcome back to the world wide web. Thank you very much for your good wishes. My hand is recovering at what seems to a satisfactory pace. The surgery was a short one and I am relieved to be rid of the trigger finger I had in two of my fingers.
ReplyDeleteBack to the WWW, alas, comes with a price. Our comment, when we drove out of the almost untouched and thickly forested Himalayan mountains back onto the highway, the cafes, traffic, towns and cities was "How awful to leave civilization and be back in the uncivilized world again!".
ReplyDeleteAnil - Your summation of the situation hit me hard. The hustle and bustle, as well as the grime that goes with it, often do seem quite "uncivilized". How remarkable that you have access to that type of retreat! I think the secret lies in trying to maintain some sort of balance between the two worlds, do you agree?
