Getting My Ducks in a Row

(Click on the thumbnail for the bigger, better version)

Several days ago, we went down to Cub Lake to take ourselves and Galen for a walk. The ducks with their new chicks were the bonus for our effort. It was my first time in weeks to carry a DSLR outside the house and I felt I could only manage the 24-105 mm lens for any length of time. The result was that I had to crop these like crazy. Nevertheless, it surely felt good to have a camera in my hand.

The brief outing whetted my appetite. The deer are moving about in the valley—mamas with their babies also; some hawks have been hunting in the field west of the house. It is time to be out and about with a telephoto lens.

I should be safe driving by the end of next week—the incision at the top of the palm is markedly improved and the thumb is doing rather well—working on strength and flexibility. Between the creatures close to the house and being able to wander around in the valley, I have hopes of some local exploration.

In the meantime, I am simply enjoying the fact that we are finally into a kind of Spring here. After a brief spate of hot weather, we are back into a cooling trend and, supposedly, we will see the upper 70's during this next week.

  1. Baby steps. I guess we all have to function within our limitations. It looks like you're doing fine from the likes of these and will be working full steam before you know it. Your environment is just begging you to get out and photograph.
The hot weather makes me lazy and right now it's 90 degrees. Upper 70s is perfect! Enjoy.

  2. Ken - The 90's can be miserable. We have been in the 80's for the last few days and enjoying it immensely. The last time we went down to Bakersfield, we hit 103 in the early afternoon. The 70's would be very nice. Supposedly we will get a brief spate of that in the middle of the week to come.

Yes, baby steps. I am chafing at a plateau, but really the healing is coming along quite nicely. Trying to get used to some numbness that is aggravating. That will probably be the last thing to go.

    Thanks for your comment.

  3. Anita, good first venture with the DSLR. The light and waves in the second photo is very eye catching. We're on our second 98F day here with high humidity -- I think they said yesterday was equivalent to 103F. I'm already ready for fall and it's not even Aug yet. :-)

It's wonderful to hear and see the progress you've made in your recovery.

  4. Earl - Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate you thoughts on that second photo.

We have cooled down considerably and I am relishing every moment of it. Since we pretty much missed spring, this is more than welcome. We may lose some flowers over it, as the forecast calls for 35 degrees tonight. Meanwhile, I am taking full advantage of these cool days and storing them in memory for August.
