Family Walks

(Click on the thumbnail for the bigger, better version)

You didn't honestly think I could last more than a week without posting photos of Galen, did you? That's what I figured. Just didn't want to let you down.

My regular daily walks consist of walking from the back door, around the house and tractor shed, out to the road, and back. If I include a trip around the circular drive out front, the entire route results in a quarter-mile walk. That's just about my speed these days. I usually do that at least one a day and combine that with walks around the perimeter of Galen's domain out back.

Some days, The Husband walks with me to keep me company and encourage me. And, on many of those occasions, he brings Galen so the pup can enjoy some new smells. That particular day, I just couldn't resist pointing my camera at our beastie, since he was being so cooperative.

Walking is good stuff under most any circumstances, but walking in your very own little bubble of love and warmed by the sun is especially fine. The photos of Galen are nice mementos of one of those special afternoons.

  1. He's beautiful!!! And you've captured him beautifully.

  2. He's a beauty Anita--does he take you for a walk, or is he pretty good about staying with you and not pulling ahead? My greyhound gets the zoomies in the snow, which makes for some scary walks at times :).

  3. Ken - Thanks for the nice words about the photo. Even though looks wasn't the main criteria when we chose another Sheltie, it isn't a bad bonus.

  4. Mary Ann - I haven't been able to walk him at all in months. I was in the midst of leash training when my back went completely. (I won't hold it against the pup, but he probably had a lot to do with pushing me over that edge.) Galen weighs about thirty pounds which is far too much for me to handle at this stage of recovery. I am not allowed lifting or pulling much of any weight. Hence, the pup and I play exclusively in the fenced back yard. The Husband handles the doggy walks.

I have these great images of you and your greyhound doing "zoomies".

  5. Anita, I love the late evening side lighting for these shots. It really shows off Galen's beautiful coat. I can only imagine that "someone" spends lots of time helping him keep it that lovely.

  6. Earl - Thank you for the mention on the lighting.

You make me feel a bit guilty talking about his coat. But, thank goodness for lighting, right? I can't groom, for now, and my husband is busy picking up all the slack in the chores department. We are just fortunate that Shelties do quite a lot of self-grooming.

  7. Anita, keep up the walking, it's good for the back and even better for the photographer's soul!

  8. Steve - No doubt about it! It keeps us going, right? I look forward to my more lengthy strolls along the trails close by.

  9. I'm envious of your "bubble of love", even though I have the metro parks as mine. Walks are important, simple and very seldom done by most of us. I'm glad you do get in those walks, and take your camera with you.

  10. Monte - I think your bubble is grand. After all, it's the loving even more than being loved that makes us all warm inside, isn't it?

Yes, so simple and yet we so often skip walks because we think that we don't have time.
