Why Not an E-book Experiment

I am experimenting with e-books and I thought I would see what I can do with just Blogger and Issuu. The current sample is a mess, frankly. I rushed through this today with some photos I have posted here earlier, and I didn't bother to change some things from my SoFoBoMo project. There are typos, in abundance; the page footers are incorrect; and, you many find any number of gremlins that I haven't even noticed yet. But, it's the beginning of something that has been on my mind for a while. We'll see where this leads.

  1. I see the gears turning and new beginnings barely visible over the horizon, but approaching fast. I look forward to seeing and hearing more!

  2. Earl - There is ton of stuff brewing over here (to mix up our metaphors—because what are metaphors for, if not for mixing?) This idea about more e-books has been cooking ever since I completed my SoFoBoMo project. I don't think I want to wait until next year for another go at an e-book. There are acouple more in the works, after I check out more details at the Issuu site.

  3. Wow! Anita! My aren't we loquacious this week. I'm liking this side of you! :-) This certainly didn't look like a rush job to me. It's beautiful. It makes me want to hang out on your front porch for a while. I've always wondered what it would be like to be a vagabond. And, if one is going to take up such a life, it might as well be in a scenic location! I could tarry there for a bit!

  4. Paul - Are you accusing me of being a chatterbox? :) It's true. For the last couple of days, I can't seem to write fast enough to keep up with all the things that I want to chatter about. You know me. When it runs out, I will go dead silent for several days, then come back to life for no apparent reason.

I am delighted that you enjoyed my test run. I didn't try Issuu last year and was curious. I do have to get much faster at some of the steps if I want to do more of books—and I do.

Well, we have a sign out front that says "Certain Very Special Vagabonds Are Welcome Here."

Sometimes, I have to pinch myself, so I will know that living in such a scenic place is not a dream. You would enjoy it. But, hey, you have some pretty fabulous scenery where you are. I miss seeing the ocean periodically and the lush greenery. Not to mention all the old architecture in your neck of the woods that is gorgeous.

  5. Exciting! I looked through what you have made available, and it looked promising. And all that without any fancy layout tools others than the publisher provided online? Its like Iphoto and Aperture on my Mac (they are mainly used for organising all your pictures), you can make pretty impressive books with them. They are foremost sooo much easier to use than all the layout tools we normally use.

  6. Ove - Actually, all the layout was done and the PDF was generated in Adobe Pagemaker. Issuu will publish it on the web. But, I am happy with the way they present my PDF and free is a very nice bargain, so I am a happy and grateful user.

I especially appreciate that Issuu will allow users to embed the presentation on a web site. That may be my favorite part. You don't have to send a viewer off site to see your work.

The advertising isn't obnoxious, so overall I would recommend the company. Once the PDF is done, everything else is a piece of cake. I hope you will experiment with it.
